Re: Project Astrolade

What is the dark green product that you layed down before the bondo? is that "Marglass" Did you put it onto the bare metal? Why did you have to make that cut (going back) on the upper side of the fender? .... curious? I appreciate seeing all the welding and fabrication details before they...

Re: Project Astrolade

BTW, is there something you're supposed to apply between the various pieces of sheetmetal so as to prevent rust from forming at the joints? How would you apply it, where and when? Jez curious.... I spray the back of my pieces of "filler" sheet metal with self etching primer, you could als...

Re: Project Astrolade

I made lower grill brackets, and got the passenger head light brackets all done. There are two pull pins and one bolt to remove the headlight. I cut the passenger side of the hood to follow the headlight lens, and cut the fender. I'll have to pull both in to the headlight. Not too bad so far. http:/...

Re: Project Astrolade

Got the tail lights and back door done. Time to start the front end swap. I mounted the chrome trim piece that goes on the hood. I also fabricated up some brackets to hold the grill on. I wanted to make them as stock looking as possible, and function well. idk about stock looking but, they do work g...

Re: Project Astrolade

No lie, it takes about an extra 4 hours to cut-out that extra reinforcement (using professional airtools) to beable to sink the lights deeper into the body. A Plasma cutter would certainly help, but I ain`t got that kinda ca$h...... I had a plasma cutter when I body dropped my Sonoma, I wish it was...

Awesome work =D> Your fab skills are top notch. I wasn't sure how to install the frame notch on the rear. I saw your pics and it's clear to me now.

Re: Project Astrolade

Nice step by step pictures, here`s some of mine. I preferred the look of my Cadditails to sit higher up, so I had lots of extra cutting to do because there is some major reinforcing behind those top door hinges. Yeah, I found that major reinforcement. I had to deal with it a little bit, but your ri...

Re: Project Astrolade

It appears your chrome bezels are as deep as mine but don't understand how you got them that deep without cutting more metal out behind the buckets to allow room for bulb sockets. I used the Astro sockets with a little cutting of the slots on Cad housing,,is that the difference ? I don't remember h...

Re: Project Astrolade

Got the other filler in and got the tail light bucket in. Should have mud on it by the end of the night. The customer also decided to shave the rear license plate box and door handle. I got the filler tacked into place. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n102/1lowGMC/Astro%20Van/100_0742.jpg http://...

Are you gonna mount the Cadditails high or low?
They are gonna be mounted lower than those. I plan on putting the caddi tails inbetween the upper and lower body lines.

Re: Project Astrolade

got the doors done, still need to run wires for the driver door. Started tacking in the tail light fillers in preparation for the Cadillac light buckets. It's worth the $130 spent on the grant tail light fillers, simple trimming and they fit perfect. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n102/1lowGMC/A...
