flakely battery?
I just returned from a 2 week trip to China and discovered that I could not start my stro. I jump started it and it was fine. About 200 miles later I stopped in the middle of nowhere to get a coke. When I returned the van would not start. I jump started it and it was fine. I have started it about 5 ...

Rear a/c and heating
How do the rear heating and a/c systems that come stock with some of the Astros and Safari's work? Do they just extend the hot or cool air from the front unit and blow it to the back or do they include a second cooling unit and heater core?

how durable is the AWD hardware?
The more I drive my stro the more I like it, the more I can think of things to do with it the more I wish I had AWD. I have seen some vans about my year that have awd but they also tend to be high mileage. (If i picked up another one I would like to stick to a 95 or 96 because these years and later ...

Re: My gas mileage
20 MPG is excellent. Remember, you're pushing a box through the air. At the cost of diesel fuel and the cost of a diesel conversion, it will be a very long time before you realize any savings. Then add the expense of a transmission swap. It sounds like you're backing up. If you just want to do a sw...

My steering column
One of the greatest features in this van is the adjustable steering column. I can raise it when I get in or go out and then lower it while driving. Is there some kind of maintenance/lubrication that needs to be done to it to keep it happy?

What did the SMOG folks in California think about your V8? I am assuming you are not talking about the drink ;)

My gas mileage
Is 20 mpg for a stro good for freeway driving? I drove from Portland to Seattle and then around a bit, for a total of 400 miles on 20 gallons of gas. I used cruise control as much as possible and stuck to the speed limit.

Re: tranny with a delay in shifting
Did you also read that the 96 and newer vans were never designed to have a manual transmission? The fact that you simply can not just grab an old clutch pedal/brake pedal assembly/ master cylinder and simply bolt it on will definitely require LOTS of under dash structural fabrication. This project ...

with a healthy v6. My van is a little tired now, so would not want to stress it just yet. I think the auto tranny has a 4 spd with OD - i can shift it manually into 3 gears.
If it were in tip top shape, what do you think? what kind of hitch would be needed?
