Re: Removing Front Shocks - Top Nut - SHEESH!

You've got to stop with the teasers unless you're gonna share some experiences. CHiPs was like my one of my very favorite shows growing up. Kinda star struck here. :poke: Ok CHiPs... Like a lot of young people in Hollywood, I was a musician, voice-over artist, comedian, actor. I'd take just about a...

Re: Removing Front Shocks - Top Nut - SHEESH!

I got them off. Lots of cussin' and knuckle bustin. Tried with four different style vice grips, I couldn't get any of them to grip the polished hardened rod. Eventually I was able to get the nut UP far enough that I could then get a gator nosed vice grip BENEATH the nut, onto the threaded part of th...

Re: Free E Brake cable bracket - On YOUR van!

Those brackets are supposed to limit the rearward movement of the subframe in a front end collision. I'm not real confident that they actually would do anything, but if this is a concern for you, make sure you put one back on each side. Aren't the ones in the lift longer?... I don't think we're tal...

Re: Oil Filters

Not trying to sell you Lumpy. But some things in life warrant further investigation. Jim I agree. Problem with oil filters vs guitar strings is that I can sense a difference in strings right now, as I play them. I can't "sense" a difference in oil filters, of course. Even the article, ver...

Removing Front Shocks - Top Nut - SHEESH!

Manoriffico, is there some kind of secret trick to getting that top nut off the front shocks? PBBlaster, Freeze spray, 4 different vice grips, sockets, wrenches, nut splitter, just a royal PITA to get the darn thing off. Rear shocks, 5 min per shock. Front shocks, 4 hrs per shock, not counting a run...

Re: Free E Brake cable bracket - On YOUR van!

I noticed, while under my 89, that there was a second parking brake cable bracket under there, not being used. You know that little L shaped bracket on the driver side that holds the cable? There's an identical one on the passenger side that's just sitting there. So if you're piecing together a bud...

Re: Lumpy's 89 2 inch lift, with pics and measurements

Let me know how you like the MyRide setup. I just removed it from my truck as it seems to run every time I start the truck to move a trailer or load with camp wood. I also found one time this winter where it ran constantly and I had to set it real low to keep the compressor from running too long. I...

Re: Oil Filters

I tend to agree with the "hair splitting" theory. I change mine at 3k and don't worry about one filter doing a better job than another. Bet you split hairs when it comes to guitar strings... Hmmm. Good point. You're right about that. OK. I'm sold. I'm off to find a Purolator or Wix or wha...

Re: Stall when braking, when outside temp is hot

It kinda sounds like the EGR is slightly plugged... Thanks Mucho! I got in there and looked just now, based on your suggestion. I'm not sure I can see or at least know what the EGR looks like. BUT While in there, I found one of the wires supplying the TBI injectors had worn insulation as it passed ...

Stall when braking, when outside temp is hot

Any brainstorms on this weirdness appreciated... ](*,) 89 Astro, everything stock V-6, automatic. Van starts fine. Runs fine highway or city. As I'm decelerating, as if coming up to a stop sign, the engine wants to stall WHEN I start touching the brakes and ONLY when the outside temp is maybe 90 deg...

...And being Harbor Freight, they gotta be cheap to purchase too! I always have to laugh when I'm at HF. "Did you find everything you were looking for?" Hell, I was looking for a $15 torque wrench. Found that in eleven seconds. But while I was here, I picked up some jack stands, easy-outs...

hey thanks for the post Lumpy! Im considering the same upgrade since I added the 2" deeper alloy transmission pan. Id like to see that third photo re-shot at the same time of day as the first though since I can really see a difference with that lighting position. Ha! if it wasnt for the window...

Re: Oil Filters

...thats not the first time Ive read bad things about fram filters. 40 yrs ago, wasn't it Frams that everybody claimed were a roll of toilet paper in a can? Some even swore they opened them up and found the roll of TP. I even think JCWhitney sold cannister shells that would accept a roll of TP. &qu...
