Re: alternator choices

I have nothing against the CS144. It's larger than the CS130 and is able to output higher amperage and stay cooler. When you do the upgrades you don't have to replace the factory wires, but, you should do the big 3 upgrade. You actually just add the new wiring and be done with it. As always, the sho...

Re: alternator choices

Look into the AD244 alternators from newer Tahoe's, Suburbans, and trucks like that. Supposedly should be a direct drop in with out any (or too much) modifications. They also come with higher amperage ratings (145amps if I remember right). You can also search motorcityreman on Ebay. I've seen him se...

That's not right. Not right at all. It needs rocket launchers on wheel wells or something.

Re: Spray on, Dip on RTV PlastiDip - Very Cool Stuff

There are unlimited usages for this stuff, only the imagination will hold you back. I haven't used it for years. Used to put it on all my tools. Pretty much had my tools color coded for what drawer they went in to. I thought about, at one time, and for a very short couple seconds, doing my grill on ...

Re: Idiot Battery Light

Belt may be slipping
Alternator on it's way out
Loose positive wire on back of alternator

The last one I had the same symptoms for a couple months. Was checking things out one day and found it was a little loose. Tightened it up, put another nut and lock washer on it, and haven't had a problem since.

Re: Just some misc pictures of Astros

May I suggest looking into an AD244 alternator from a tahoe or surburban. You'll get more out of the alternator than the CS144 will do and should be a direct drop in.

Other than that, I love this build.

Re: flooring ideas?

DIY truck bed liner would be the way to go. You can go as thin or thick as you want and still hold the shape of the interior. But you also mentioned sound deadening. May I suggest second skin sludge. It'll go on like a truck bed roll on liner plus have more of a sound deadening effect. It'll dry lik...

Re: New carpets

I would say J.C. Whitney catalog, but I'm not sure how the quality would be. They usually have a lot of stuff that'll fit Astro and Safari vans.

btw, I want your door panels. :muhaha:

Guess I need to go check the other forums for the newer build. Heard you can't keep a windshield in the van now.

Re: misfire / shudder

I pretty much just went through the same thing. Ended up replacing fuel pump, fuel regulator, fuel filter and spark plugs and wires. Seems to have fixed the problem, but I still get a backfire in the TBI every now and then.

Hope that helps

Positive and negative? I doubt they have any electrical going through them. Have you put a meter on them? 6spd_monte, I think he is talking about the 2 straps under the radio area. The go from right below the radio to two threaded rods on each front side of the doghouse. Is this correct, kings-x59? ...

Re: learned someting and now wish to share

I did that to my Beretta GT once. I couldn't figure out what the problem was and I followed the instructions that came with the new calipers. Took it to a shop and ended up paying a little over $500 to have the brakes done all around. Everything was replaced from the master cylinder to the brake pad...

Re: De-oxidizing clear signal lenses DIY with pics

I tried something on my 94 Grand Marquis and my mom's 99 Grand Marquis. Using the same method as slim724 except I used Liquid Gold wood cleaner and preservative. It did wonders on the outside of both cars. I wasn't able to do the insides at the time, but will get to them soon. So that will give you ...
