Re: mystery thump
A local top-notch tranny guy told me that it's the tail of the tranny. I had taken a 96 Astro tranny in for a bench rebuild. When I went to pick it up, I noticed that the tail was packed with grease. I asked why. He asked me if I'd ever stopped and a few seconds later it felt like someone bumped in...

Washer fluid tubing
OK, I've gotten a brain problem for some reason (likely from the 60's). I recently replaced the blower motor. Never noticed that the washer fluid was always empty after I did the blower job. So, I pulled the tank up and found that I had attached this tubing to the pump motor. http://i27.photobucket....

Re: Steering Gear Box leaking. . .
My steering gear unit only leaks out the top when I remove the cap off the fluid reservoir. Barely drips a drop otherwise. Take the cap off to check the level and there is an 18" puddle in less than 2 hours. So ... I don't take the cap off anymore. Don't know if this is your problem but hey ......

Re: Block heater installed, new battery... van won't start
I've only had one bad Auto Zone battery. Was under warranty.
Check the cables.
Check the cables.
Check the cables.
ALL attachment points
I've seen more starting problems from cables than anything else.
I've seen what was felt to be a tight cable to battery was mostly corrosion holding it on.

Re: Block heater info for Mr.Roboto
I installed mine on the 90 because the wife would turn the key to start and then immediately into R to back-out of the driveway and then onto work. No warm up at all. I've tried a few times to get her to give it 60 seconds before moving but it was not worth the effort. Didn't care about KW cost sinc...

Re: Sliding Door Problem
I did a write up not long ago on how I removed the body trim to gain full access to the roller assy and other points to lube.
Since you say the top front I'm not sure if my fix will help yours.
But it could not hurt.

Re: Sliding Door Problem
Not sure if anyone has had this problem and found a fix. My sliding door is extremely hard to open. Is it the weather stripping? Or is there any adjustment you can make to the door? It's like you have to pull out and slide... Any thoughts? Do you mean as in having to reach up to the top rear corner...

Re: Block heater info for Mr.Roboto
Installs in a freeze plug position on a '90 4.3Z.
I'm guessing it will fit most anything.
The included instruction sheet is date coded 10/93 (made and printed in Canada) (drawing # 1155097).
Part number on the box looks like 996246 (guessing on the first number).

I've not heard of the P-valve sticking. I would think if it is your braking would be the rear would be locking up of not working at all. I used to to push the pistons back in but have opted to hook up a bleeder hose and let it go in that direction. Much easier. Then I add new fluid to the tank. Kind...
