Re: Broken steering box bolts, ect...

Thanks for being concerned Gary. True I was reluctant to talk about my health problems, I came to you guys because you know Astros, not because I was looking for medical advice. I am pretty new here and don't really know anyone so I was trying to keep the discussion focused on the van. I do apprecia...

Re: Broken steering box bolts, ect...

Thanks for the link Aaron! Got the locking lug nut off by hammering a 19mm six point socket onto it, Les schwab fixed the tire up for me, had a bunch of dirt packed into the bead. Unfortunately the tire has a nice slice across it, and will need replaced if I intend to keep the van. I drove it about ...

Re: Broken steering box bolts, ect...

Point taken 1Gary. At first I assumed a total loss without digging any deeper than seeing the wheel well and tweeked doors. I assumed bent subframe and suspension components all askew. This may end up being the case but I'm not ready to give up on it just yet. I went to a you-pull wrecking yard toda...

Re: Broken steering box bolts, ect...

Well, I have no trailer and no vehicle capable of towing it with. We had a difficult time getting it on the trailer I borrowed without being able to steer. I do not have the money to pay a tow truck to haul a vehicle that may or may not be scrapped to and from the shop, plus I have a few new medical...

Re: Broken steering box bolts, ect...

The van only has liability insurance, so if I can't get it back on the road fairly cheaply it will be sold for parts. I have much better insurance on myself and have been to the ER, my family practitioner, and had a MRI on my brain done this morning. So far they have found nothing. The steering horn...

Re: Broken steering box bolts, ect...

I was going to smooth over that rough draft before posting when I was so rudely interrupted by my job, so I should explain, since some seem to think I am guilty of Astro abuse. I did not "decide" to jump the canal. I passed out. Driving home from work I got dizzy, the world started spinnin...

Broken steering box bolts, ect...

So I decided to jump a canal the other day, Dukes of Hazzard style, and I messed up the front end. Passenger wheel came up and back, it smacked the fender, pushing the door up and back into the slider. The wheels are splayed out and the steering box bolts broke and the box is flopping. I am not sure...

Re: New guy in Idaho

Thanks for the welcome guys! I haven't checked back in since monday, I broke my leg. I've been on Norco since monday night and have been kinda loopy. I was out riding my motorcycle, a KLR 650, in the dirt. I went to flip a left handed cookie to turn around and just as I lifted up my pivot leg (left ...

New guy in Idaho

Hello from Idaho! I own a 98 2wd Astro, mostly used for camping and towing a motorcycle trailer in the summer, and commuting in the winter. Bought it in 03 with 82,000 miles and just passed 150,000 a few weeks ago. It has been a great vehicle, and is in good shape. I have made only a few repairs in ...
