Re: Rear Door Removal

Thanks for that Capt.
I had something way scarier than that going on in my head !!

I'll have a look at getting one shipped over, any ideas on a supplier?

Re: Rear Door Removal

Aha! I wondered if there might be ....
The chances of getting one of course are pretty slim I bet, especially over here in England.

Does get me thinking though, some kind of press like puller that pushes !?

Think I'm gonna need a couple of beers to think up something like that O:)

Re: Rear Door Removal

Yeah, that's kinda what I did with the ones on the breaker, had to cut the pins in the cracks between the hinges, trouble is the tops are stuck in the upper part of the hinges and I caught the doors a bit with the saw 'coz of the angle. Haven't tried heat yet ... didn't know if was some 'trick' I sh...

Rear Door Removal

Haven't posted for a while, Bought a second Astro (1991) as a breaker for parts for 'Ol Stinky' (1993) Want to use the rear doors from it, could not get the hinge pins out of the doors on the breaker. Before I go ahead and cut through the ones on Ol Stinky, Is there a particular technique for gettin...

Re: '93 2WD steering problems

Didn't know it was forged. Trying to work out how it would have got bent. Must have had a serious whack with a previous set of wheels on otherwise I would notice the square wheel on that side. There's a guy breaking one the same year as mine with a fried engine a couple of hours from me, I'm going t...

Re: '93 2WD steering problems

Would the knuckle bend? It looks like a cast piece, I thought it would just break if it had been whacked that hard. Is the camber out of whack, or Is the camera just tilted? She does have a bit of negative camber, but not much, I figured it was normal. You could go down to the dealer and ask the par...

Re: '93 2WD steering problems

Anybody? ......Any ideas? Are there differences in the uprights on different years? The passenger side definately curves inwards more than the driver side does. Took a couple of pics so you can hopefully see what I'm babbling about.... You can see the mark on the passenger side wishbone where the ro...

'93 2WD steering problems

Hey guys, got some questions about the lock on Ol' Stinky. It's a 1993 2wd EXT. On full right lock, it'll pull the wheels right round 'till the tire touches the sway bar, but on left lock I get like one turn of the steering wheel and the rod end touches the A arm. It also seems to really scrub the t...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?

Picked up a good (so I'm told..) used 4L60E 'box out of a '93 C1500.
Hoping it's gonna cure Ol' Stinky's trans horrors. Should I bypass the built in cooler and run an aftermarket one? Seems like a plan.

Re: Other cool vehicles

I always liked this one... http://www.britishv8.org/MG/JebBlanchard.htm Really like that, I've always been one for ticking off the purists !!! Bet that gets 'em going at the MG owners club.... suicide doors too! Anybody done that on an Astro? Guess you've gotta know what tunes you want to listen to...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?

Not feelin the love for Ol' Stinky today. Took a trip with the trailer to get the beginnings of a new offroad project (Suzuki LJ80). Van ran like a sack.... Horrible weather, windows all steamin' up, wipers no good, lights on the blink, gearbox is nasty, slipping and all sorts. Getting about 11mpg. ...

Re: Other cool vehicles

Diffs are lower ratio Jimny Automatic ones. Original transfer was a stock Jimny, current one is an SJ410/Samurai hybrid that gives me a pretty much standard high range and about an 80% reduction in low range.

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?

I'll be interested to see where you park the second battery. Planning on a second battery in mine, but for camping items etc. Spent most of the day pulling out pointless wiring that several previous owners have mashed in and then thoughtfully left hanging around every where (most of it live !!!) lon...

Re: Other cool vehicles

Thanks, it is a lot of fun, built it really for me and my son to go wheelin' in, don't have the kind of trails over here that most of you guys do .... I guess it's kind of a body over, felt like a lot more work than that though. I started off with a wrecked Smart Roadster, lengthened some Suzu...
