Re: On the verge of overheating going up hills?

from http://www.arrowheadradiator.com First: Is there enough coolant/antifreeze in the radiator? Don't just look inside the plastic overflow bottle, but remove the radiator cap (when the engine is cold) and look inside the radiator. You should be able to physically see the fluid level if it is at it...

Re: alignment knock outs

Well I was at home when they called me about the knock outs, so I didn't want to have to call someone, get a ride to the shop, take her back home and drive it to my friends house who has the necessary tools just to tap out the knock outs. Oh well, I overpaid. On the plus side, my van has never drive...

Re: Hello from Western Washington

Looks pretty damn clean for a 91! That's because we don't salt our roads out in Western Washington! Looking for this van, I saw super clean Astros from the 80's. Heck we have tons of fords and chevys driving around daily from the 60's. My wife's from the east coast, she says all the vehicles older ...

alignment knock outs

Hey guys, I put took the van to the shop for an computerized alignment as I can't do that myself. They quoted me $75. They call me an hour later and say that they have to remove the knock outs to align everything correctly. Suddenly the price jumps from $75 to $300 something. What's the deal. How ha...

Re: stock differential on 1991 awd Safari

I looked at the codes and can see that I don't have the g80. I guess I have an open differential. I notice on internet car forums, people will talk about LSDs for rear rear drive trucks and 4x4s, but are LSDs used on AWD vehicles also? I mainly want my AWD to make my van into an awesome snow machine...

Re: stock differential on 1991 awd Safari

They are all GM 10 bolt, but not the 8.5 inch ten bolt, its the smaller 7.xx something size. you could look up the RPO codes on a white sticker on the glove box door. Theres a lot of alphanumeric codes on it, and 2 of them should start with the letter "G". G codes are about the axle. If y...

stock differential on 1991 awd Safari

Does anyone know what kind of differential the 1991 Safari AWD has. I just got a repair manual for it but it doesn't have any information on all wheel drive components. Does it come with a limited slip?

Re: Hello from Western Washington

Good choice with the Gen 1 AWD. Is it a short body or an EXT ? It's a short body. Seems like I can fit plenty of stuff in there, though. I like that I can navigate in parking lots and downtown easily. I use it for my window cleaning company and am driving it a lot in downtown areas doing storefront...

Hello from Western Washington

Hi guys, I just bought my first safari van. It's a 1991 awd. Got it for my window cleaning/janitorial business. I am waiting for some snowflakes because I really want to test out it's snow ability. I decided that I want to learn everything I can about my rig so I can maintain it and run it at optimu...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?

Replaced both idler arms, one torsion bar, replaced inner and outer tie rod ends, put on new front and rear shocks and air filter. Getting alignment done by shop Thursday. Already it runs much better....much tighter and more stable.
