Re: '99 GMC Safari camper build
Yeah, The bottom piece comes off really easy without removing the top two pieces. Just a couple screws, some clips that pop out and the courtesy light by the driver door step which I just disconnected from the wiring without unscrewing from the trim. I can pop the trim back in if the cabinets are re...

'99 GMC Safari camper build
Got around to starting my camper build over the last couple days. I am starting with a rear facing bench seat/storage unit. I removed the bottom piece of trim from the driver side to allow my aux battery to sit tight against the wall directly in front of the fuel filler. DSCF8284.JPG The whole unit ...

Re: Camper Van Layout Ideas and Help
Thanks! I'll probably just add some sort of connector where the wiring enters the van interior so I can disconect easily when the battery is removed.

Re: Camper Van Layout Ideas and Help
Just want to charge a 12v agm battery to run a electric cooler, couple led lights and a small inverter. Is the wiring beefy enough to handle a charging a battery?

Re: Camper Van Layout Ideas and Help
Well I finally picked up the vehicle a few days ago!! 1999 rwd Safari with 151k. Runs great, and real nice exterior/interior condition!! Yesterday I started moving the bench seats around, and pulling off the drivers side plastic trim between the 3rd row bench and driver seat to take a look at my bui...

Re: 99 Astro AWD camper (under construction)
I am curious about what you did with the bulky interior plastic trim along the floor behind the cabinets on the driver side. Did you remove this or did you find a way to work around it without losing the entire bottom 6" of cabinet space. Also, how deep are your cabinets? I want to build a set ...

Re: '03 in the process
Looks cool! I have considered a sideways bed for my upcoming project, but didn't think I would be able to get enough length even with the trim removed. I'm 6' and lying at a little bit of an angle 5' 10" would be fine for me. Would you still be able to put the front bench seat in the van with t...

Re: Camper Van Layout Ideas and Help
That is a awesome simple setup Arlon! That's exactly what I was thinking of for the bed, I just was not sure whether to make the platform a hinged back/seat that pulls out or something else. good to see that it works! How long is it? Also how do you keep the platform support that goes next to the st...

Re: Camper Van Layout Ideas and Help
So you are setting it up original VW style so the bench lies down level with the rear raised cargo area and both combined creates a bed that stretches all the way from the rear doors to 16" behind the front seats? Are you doing 3/4 size with side cabinets or the full width bed? This might work ...
