Re: For U Music Folks

I'm a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, saw them live a few years back up here. They played at Naperville's Rib Fest, don't get much better then seeing Skynyrd live with the smell of smoked ribs in the background. I have a 3-disk box set that came with a story of the band's history and some early phot...

Re: For U Music Folks

Thanks for sharing that Larry. Is the Alabama Music Hall of Fame the same building? I recall going past the Alabama Music Hall of Fame when I was down in Tuscumbia several years ago.l

Re: Furnace Motor Took A Dump

Furnace motor just shut down on overtemp again. I measured the rear bearing cap (56 Deg.C) and the motor windings (37 Deg C). From my previous data the motor bearings are shot. I have the power shut off on the furnace to let the motor cool down. On the bright side I have my wood burning fireplace as...

Re: Furnace Motor Took A Dump

OK Peter, here is the results: I measured the furnace amps at the junction box as the furnace was running. After unplugging the humidifier and booster fan (which combined drew 1A) the furnace was drawing 4.0A. After the furnace was done heating I pulled off the access panel and measured the rear bea...

Re: Furnace Motor Took A Dump

Yes I had the access panel off while measuring the motor current. That would explain why I was drawing 5.8A measured at electrical junction box feeding the furnace. I figure the 40VA transformer is drawing a max of 1/3A which feeds the motor relay and gas valve coil but I also believe that the humid...

Re: Furnace Motor Took A Dump

Thanks again Peter. When I get the new motor I will let you know the details regarding the amps. I have a clamp type ammeter that I measured the existing motor draw with the blower attached (6.2A running 11.0A starting current). I assume that since the blower was attached it draws more current then ...

Re: Furnace Motor Took A Dump

Thanks for the novel Peter, it was very helpful. I'm not a big fan of heat pumps being that I live near Chicago but I don't know how efficient a gas furnace to consider. I suppose it will come down to price. My main concern is reliability and availability of parts (circuit boards) 20 years later. My...

Re: Furnace Motor Took A Dump

Thanks for the explanation Peter and the offer to fly down here on my expense. Believe me you would be bored with my furnace. It is very basic, no circuit boards or computers, just some components (temp switches) hard wired together. My digital thermometer is more complex and it isn't programmable. ...

Yes the electric motor that drives the blower wheel. (1/4HP, 115V, 1075RPM, 3 speed) Apparently local business don't want any liability selling something that is considered not replaceable by a homeowner. Most supply houses also require an account with them which means that unless my employer has an...

Peter would have been board with a simple furnace motor job. It would be like calling a mechanic over to change your spark plugs. Had Peter offered to make a house call I would have bought him a new dress for his time. :smurf:

Furnace Motor Took A Dump

My 20+ year old furnace motor decided to take a dump in the sub-zero Chicago temperatures. I was able to revive it by squirting oil into the "sealed" bearings. I decided to take the plunge and ordered a new motor & capacitor through an e-bay store, apparently the local HVAC supply stor...

Seafoam works better on a warm engine. Did you pour too much in at one time? I just trickle it in while the engine is warmed up and running.

I installed the limited slip Eaton posi (non-electronic) and it is much better then no posi which is what I had originally. Install was not difficult but knowledge on how to set it up is most important.

I have ceramic pads on my Astro and they are dead quiet. I use CRC disk brake quiet on the back of the pads:
