Service engine oil

Post by gillang »

Unless I'm wrong, seems there's no warning light in a 2002 Astro that can come "on" when it's time to change the motor oil, right ?

Hi,

That is correct. I have 2003 Astro AWD and you need to keep track of mileage of oil changes.

Hi,

the algorithm used on the automated Oil change soon systems
is most likely using mileage, temperature, average speed, distance travelled, spark advance, transmission gear used, MAF or MAP, or ignition advance,
RPM etc to guestimate how hard the vehicle is being driven.
stop and go driving vs highway miles.

Nice round number scheme is to change oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Then just use your odometer, 80,000, 85,000 etc and makes it easy to know when it is time.
