how to replace front axles on 95 awd safari?

Post by dasunzinureyez »

my drivers side front axle on my 95 awd safari has a ton of play, I am wondering how easy it is to replace and what the procedure is and if I need any special tools..

Also is there something like a Chiltons for AWD astro/safaris?

Your 95 is easy to change. Just unbolt the CV shaft at the diff flange, slide it to the side, remove the axle nut at the hub and gently drive out. Whatever you do do not drive the van with the shaft removed. You may need to remove the lower shock mount bolt for needed room. To install the new shaft, repeat the steps in reverse. Tighten the axle nut to 150 foot-pounds.
