Re: Add-a-Leaf Helper Springs... Questions!
DL
I have the 2" Overland lift already installed, and planning to put in Overlands add-a-leaf and coil springs this wekend. I'm wondering if you have noticed any vibrations due to the drive shaft angle. On mine, with just the 2" I have quite a bit of vibration. I bought 4deg. shims thinking that it will only get much worse. Did you use any wedges to correct the angle?
Thanks,
Jack

Re: Add-a-Leaf Helper Springs... Questions!
Not to answer for D/L but since you have a 2" lift already and you are planning to install the add-a-leaf, I take it you have the lift shackle. D/L did not use the shackle so her pinion angle did not change.
You can try the 4 degree shims to correct the pinion angle. The best way is to actually measure the pinion angle and compare it to the engine/tranny/t-case centerline angle and adjust from there.

Oh I'm so glad I don't have to worry about this. I drove around yesterday & all was well, but I haven't hit high speeds yet. Thanks for clarifying that Mr Lifted!

You should be fine, Chrissy. Except for the "exploding of both rear tires at high speeds" (over 75 mph), there aren't really any problems with the add-a-leafs. And the aforementioned explosions usually cause death rather quickly, so the lack of suffering is a bonus ![Rock on! :supz:](./images/smilies/icon_super.gif)

Re: Add-a-Leaf Helper Springs... Questions!
Ahhh I see. I actually assumed DL had the shackles too.
I have mine in the bottom hole for max lift. I bought 4deg shims because I knew I'd need something, and seemed better to have them before I tore the suspension apart. Besides, it seemed like a good idea to pay double for them and have them shipped from Michigan to CA when I could have gone down the street and bought them for $15.
The van looks awesome DL! Of course now I'm gona have to paint my axle and leafs too!

Not to hijack the post but for you folks out there with the shims, how bad was the vibrations? I have no correction in mine and I think it rides ok?

Re: Add-a-Leaf Helper Springs... Questions!
Your van is looking pretty good now Christine! I know that your new springs and shocks will make it handle like a new machine. I changed the front coils in one of my vehicles and used a dual rate spring. They give a nice ride until you start to load the vehicle more or drive more aggressive...basically the more they compress the firmer they get. After you install the front shocks you probably won't need new front springs unless you want to get back the stock ride height, lower it or lift it.
Good idea to rust proof your van. Once you get it done it will look better and last longer. Up here they are using more salt on the roads than in the past. It is really taking it's toll on my fleet. It is harder to keep them clean when it is so cold...and every time you drive they get coated in muck. I am sure you recall all to well those cold winters back in New York!
I love to cook using the BBQ also, but we don't do it that often in the winter. Those pics made me hungry! It is going to be around the freeze point today...I think I will fire up the barby later.

This may be a dumb question but doesn't any kind of lift change the pinion angle?LiftedAWDAstro wrote:D/L did not use the shackle so her pinion angle did not change.
