camshaft question

Post by astroblastin »

Hello I called a chevy dealership about ordering the ramjet camshaft. They went and told me they were backordered. Should I wait or are there other roller camshafts that might be better? The dealership is asking $160 for the cam.My engine builder just got the motor balanced and it will be about 2 weeks before the short block is ready for the cam. Thanks

I'm not sure if it's the same one but some of the guys give rave reviews on the 383 cam. \:D/

The 383 cam number is 14097395.That is the one everyone seems to like.

The web site where it is found is:www.gmpartsdirect.com

This cam should make some good low end torque.

Camshaft-Part # 14097395 Billet Steel Hydraulic Roller Camshaft.
Intake Lift- .431" Intake Duration @ .050" 196
Exhaust lift- .451" Exhaust Duration @ .050" 206
Lobe Centerline-109

Someone posted specs on a 383 cam in another thread recently with WAY more duration than this cam. This cam sounds like a much better choice for towing.

The HT383/Ramjet cam are one in the same, however GMPP also produces other non HT383 engines with different cams. I am a fan of the ZZ3/ZZ4 cam, as the HT383 cam has minimal duration and lift more than say a stock LT1 B-body cam or a stock Vortec 350 cam. Depending on the heads you will probably need mods for a ZZ3 cam. Anything is better than a stock 305 or 350 TBI cam, unless you're talking the 9C1 Caprice 350 which has a stock TPI cam in it and is a keeper IMO.
