What?!? My Astro is 2nd fiddle to a race boat!?!

Post by T.Low »

[-( Well, I guess i can't complain too much. I was hoping to take the van down to my brother in laws house this weekend so we could install the 2spd electronic shift transfer case using his tools/lift and, oh yeah, 8-[ a little of his expertise, too.

But low and behold he is mechaniccing on a Sprint boat racer this weekend. He also sometimes navigates the races too. :yikes: Personally, I make it a rule to not climb into a boat that has a roll bar.

The boat in the third video with the checkered flag painted on the sides is his team.

Cool.
Never seen Spring Boats before.
I was told getting my beauty sleep was a waste of time.

1990 Astro (Z motor) mostly original @ 343,584 miles (552,944.8488960001 Canadian) (03/2008). Bad startup puff. Starting to spray for skeeters. Gone 06/07/08.
1993 Astro with a bad W motor. Parked next to a chicken coop in Talking Rock GA
I'm 'tween Canton and Holly Springs (North NorthWest of Atlanta GA)
I haul bottled water everyday- between 500 and 2500 pounds (226.796185 and 1,133.980925 Canadian) INSIDE the van.

they do it a bit faster on larger tracks in austrialia and new zealand and I've seen some also in rivers, that is insanse. they call them jet boats, not sure if the motors are different or not, but it's been a VERY large sport under there for as long as i can remember.

if you don't get motion sickness, take a ride in one below

Ha! Thanks reaps, but I'm just the wuss standing high up on the banks of the slough, sippin on a Dos Equis, takin in the sights and sounds and hoping my mechanic...uh, brother in law, lives to wrench another day!

Yeah, those things are pretty fantastic alright.

They are fun ALOT of fun....... I know the owner of a marina not to far from here. Used to take the catamaran racing boat for a rip once in a while. WOOOOOOO is all I can say. Then he also had this little I think it an off shore race boat (cigarette boat) that was 90% balsa wood and some fibreglass. Thing weighed maybe 300# without the motor and was about 9 feet long. Powered by a big honkin 250 merc. That sucker would fly but he only let me take it out twice because if you caught the wake off another boat wrong or a wave wrong the boat would essentially just shatter/explode into tiny little pieces since it was mostly balsa wood. WOOOOOHOOOO my kinda fun :D

Did he say $120K? That does not sound too bad for what I was expecting but still a lot of money!
Put me in one of those and I think I will never want to go on a roller coaster every again! Sprint Boat for the win!
