Need help with dome lights

Post by GrinderBeatUdown »

I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. My dome lights are not working. 1995 Safari awd. There is power going to both sides of the dome light, the map lights are fine. But it appears that when you flick the switch one of the live wires switches off to make it work...sounds like a crappy system to me but that it what happens. Mine stays live on both sides even when I turn the dome light switch on. I've replaced both switches, one in the headlight switch plate and the one in the dash itself. Anybody have any ideas??? I have 3 of these vans and this is the only one without dome lights working, and I've tested the other vans and found that they are supposed to be both live, but when switch is activated one live turns to ground...?????????

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

So I'm blind :yikes: I guess too much crap has fallen in them when I am working under the van.

Now back to the topic, but does the '95 have the delay auto shutoff? I wonder because a fault in that could cause problems with the dome lights. Beyond that, I have no idea what's up.

Try unbolting one of the door pin switches, and ground it yourself. If the lights go on, the pin switches need to be cleaned up. Unlikely that all of them failed at once, but worth a try. Thats where the ground is made up.
