Drivers side arm rest

Post by pengyou »

is really pretty torn up, though the rest of the car is in great shape. It looks like it is an integral part of the whole door panel. Is this true? What are my options for fixing it?

Not certain about the '96 models, but on my '94, the "pad" (the top part) is just screwed to a bracket on the door itself, the pad can be easily swapped with one in better shape from a salvage yard.

I believe you are correct. There are companies that will come out and fix it. Check the yellow pages for vinyl repairs I think.

My '96 Safari had the same torn arm rest. You are right about it being a part of the whole door panel. I went to a local auto upholstery shop and had them take a piece of matching color vinyl, cut it to the shape of the top of the arm rest, sew a nice finished edge around it and then I used 3M weather strip adhesive to glue it to the arm rest. If you didn't know better you would think it was factory. \:D/
