99 astro vs 01 safari

Post by scarecrow »

i am looking into buying another van. 1 is a 99 astro with 81k the van was a lease van then a courtsy shuttle for a dealership. the only real gain is it has rear heat. which does not concern me at all. just something else to break. the other van is a 01 gmc safari with 71k. 1 owner van it was an old man who had it and his nephew is selling it.so whats yer thoughts on the vans.

I'd take the 1 owner van. The other one being a dealer owned van with multiple drivers means a lot of abuse.

I agree as well...the 1 owner van for sure as long as the price is reasonable. The dealership van will also have a LOT of hours of idling time.

Have to agree on this one get the one owner GMC Safari. I used to work for a dealer, back when, and I know how their rides were driven. They were taken care of mechanically but they also got driven like they were stolen.
1989 RS Astro, V-8 and maybe a shift it myself tranny, still deciding on this one. Dutch doors, Cad tail lights, shaving the rest now. 12 bolt rear end was in the van when I got it but changing how it sets to lower.

safari no questions asked, mine came from a little old man also, it had only 30,000 miles at the, time fully loaded 99 slt which i purchased in 03 and its still running strong. plus we all know safaris are far superior to astros.....
99 SLT Safari AWD, G80/GT4 rear, Burgundy, 196,000 and counting (strictly AMSOIL) flowmaster 40series muffler no more cat, K&N Kone Filter, roll pan, 255/60/15 rubbers mounted to 15x8.5 inch American Racing Tailgunner wheels, billet grille, CB Radio, Alpine Deck, Shag carpet, the list goes on....
03 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, LB7 Duramax Diesel, 5 speed Allison Tranny, Crew Cab Long Bed, no muffler or cat, 4 inch turbo back and side piped. not too many other mods yet, also addicted to AMSOIL.

Are these both AWD's or RWD ?
Do they have any other pluses like gearing that you want (3.73) if your moding the tires or lifting?
Possible G80 posi rear, leather, dutch doors etc.
It's not like $5500.00 is giving the van away. Make sure it's what you want also.....just my loving thoughts grasshopper.

both vans are AWD. the safari has the dutch doors and the astro has barn doors. both have cloth interior , power seats. the gears i do not care about cause i am lifting it with 31s so i will be regearing it with 4.10s or 4.56s. i do not know about G80 i did not look...

well gang both vans are a NO GO........i took some time today and went and loked at both vans. the 01 safari had a clean body and clean interior but the underside looked like it was parked in a salt bin or the ocean cause holy crap was it rottin. and the 99 astro well the driver side arm rest on the door panel looks like a dog chewed it. the power door locks only worked the driver door and the rear door , the back bumper was pushed in and up , it had a burn spot in the rear carpet , the cover was missing for the rear evap , it had 3 different tires on it , and it was hit from what i could figure out pretty hard in the pass front. oh and both vans were out of inspection.......so i came to the decsion to just keep my van fix the rough idle and lift it. because other than 142k miles and the rough idle there is nothing wrong with my van. i just wanted something newer with less miles. so thank you to all who replied..
