Sasquatch? No, cougar. Honest!

Post by T.Low »

We rounded the corner to find three cougars just sitting there ( well, two sitting already and a third about to sit) . At the site of the AstroLander they scatterred into the thick forest. Two toward our left (driver's side) and the third to our right. It happened in an instant. Then as Jen reached for the camera the third must have realized he went the wrong way and lept back into the FS road and bounded across into the forest in one quick bounce to re-join his litter.

This, I'm so sad to say, is the best we could do.

WOW :yikes: That's always exciting. I've seen their southern brethern (The Florida Panther) a couple of times while flying over the Green Swamp. Their numbers have dwindled to about 1200. The Florida Game and Fish Commission has brought in their nearest cousins from Texas to add to the gene pool. I wish your picture was better but I know how fast they can disappear. \:D/

Yowza! We've got them down around our cabin at Tollgate but I've never seen one. (I'd just as soon keep it that way if I'm hiking or biking too!) This is the prime reason I bought a 9mm last year.

Did you hear about the one in Leavenworth that chased a few mountain bikers and tried to attack one of them? (They did kill that one a few days later.)

Very cool to get any pic of one!

(As for the Florida Panther, I actually saw one down around Valdosta, GA, way back in the early 80s. I thought I was mistaken on it being a big cat as I didn't know they had them down there. After a little research though, I knew that is what I'd seen.)

It was easy. I married a girl 12 years younger than me. She's young enough to know how to do all that stuff. =D>

Amazing you got a picture, not to mention 3 of them together in one place. They are notorious for their stealth. The Eastern Mountain Lion is likely making a comeback in Ontario, but they are so reclusive that it took years from the first sightings to confirm they are there through studies of scat. Even with that some people still contend it is just a pet one that escaped (or was let loose) but there is increasing evidence it is a wild group.

Ok, ok, ok. You guys were suppossed to ask where did you see those three cougars, T.Low?

Here's a little unedited preview for the insomniacs out there. Somehow, its hooked to last years Owyhee River Canyon slideshow and its too late tonite to do anyting aobut it. Just click it off as soon as you see Owyhee with captions (or heck, watch that too if you still can't sleep).

I'm riding tomorrow after work, so I'll fix it thursday.

The cougars wer spotted shortly after our 2nd ferry ride (the first one that you actually see in the slideshow) before our 2nd camp spot.

Cheers.

so, is it just me?

since i read this tom's post at 7am this morning I've been fighting the urge to post a pic and some reference to a cougar... I can't hold off any longer, I'll hold off on the pic. around here they are often seen frequenting bars sporting various hair colors and makeup... wearing heels and sometimes even pleather... usually they hunt males younger than themselves :muhaha:

thanks for allowing me to indulge 8-[

But seriously, AWESOME pics. :prayer: Sending that link to my wife right now. If she had any doubts about why I'm trying to build a van like yours, this should settle it.
