replaced the filter on the vacuum hose to my brake booster - discovered the old filter that had been in there for 21 years had a pretty bad vacuum leak. Brake pedal feels a lot more solid now.
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

Are you sure you're not referring to the check valve? I too have never seen a filter in that location. \:D/

If i'm not mistaken, the check valve is at the vacuum booster end of the hose. This filter is in-line. Part no. Dorman 80195
hope my photobucket link works....

I saw this thing in there quite some time back. It took me a while to find a diagram that identified what it was. Then it took a while to overcome procrastination. After replacing it, the travel distance in my brake pedal is shorter to get the brakes to "bite".

surfing through rockauto.com, it appears that '89 is the last year that had the power brake filter. Most likely why you haven't seen it.

Seeing the picture jogged the old memory. You are correct. That filter was used to trap fuel vapors. It seems that fuel vapors that entered the booster would cause a premature failure of booster parts. Good post, Steve. Thanks. \:D/

Got it unstuck IN MY OWN PARKING LOT! The property management has neglected to clear the parking lot and where I park is glazed where the rear wheels sit.

Green: Last night, drove it a couple miles to my friend's garage with the engine cover off. Coolant didn't start becoming steam until I started backing into their driveway.

Hmmm.. drained the rad yesterday, took it out, took the battery out and the WWF bottle.. hopefully today it goes back together! :bounce:

Oh ya whoever designed the rad at GM should be tarred and feathered.. how come there is no drain valve on these rads??

Been working on her body everyday for the past 3 weeks, in the carport (during rainy days) and outside during the nice days. Blocking flat bondo and primer with all the doors removed prepping all the jambs for some custom paint in the near future.
