Just some misc pictures of Astros
See Subject, LOL.
In this shot you can see 3 Astros and 2 Safaris if you look.
1994 Windowless Cargo, only needed a trans when parked a few years ago, who knows now.
Gary wants these doors, lol. Barely any rust on the inside edge.
Treasures stored inside, Astro 5 speed stuff, HD leaf springs, 11" drums, who know what else.

Pulling a subframe:
Getting ready, unhooking stuff. I pulled this one and kept the A/C intact just to see if I could. I don't cut anything, except the rusted out exhaust.
This is what you don't want to happen. The core was rotten, like the rest of the body. If I had noticed this before, I'd have placed a 2x4 under it for support.
I'm sure this didn't help things. The rear wheels were almost in the air, it was sitting on the hitch. My fault, and it is crowded down there.
Training wheels, LOL. $13 casters from Harbor Freight. Worked really good, I used unistrut spring-nuts and 3/8" bolts. Beauty.
Big jack stands, I used them to hold the van so I could chain to the top of the core support, then left them in and kept the cherry picker hooked up, stayed out from underneath, really scary. They are for big cable spools, and rated at one ton.
Had a wreck
and another
Like Zam says, "Side by side, here they reside", the 1989 rwd frame and the 1991 4x4 frame, now I need to get the 1989 K1500 drivtrain out and mounted down, sounds easy, lol.
The 1999 will be next when all the parts get here. This was good practice. I do have to put these frames in their respective vans so I can move them to work on the 99 I guess, I'll pull the drivetrains off first. Fun fun. I love this stuff.
edit, that's my 14 year old, James Robert, or Jim Bob. I can't deny him, although I've NEVER been that skinny.

Same colors, but it's a 93. It was my first astro, soon to go to the yard with all of the rest when the 1989 is done. Maybe.astrozam wrote:Hey, there's my van behind the tree...lolrlsllc wrote:

Re: Just some misc pictures of Astros
Almost no rust at all when parked. We can pull it up on my slab and check it out if you're interested. It may even start with a battery and new gas. It ran great when parked.Logan wrote:Is the cargo rusted? Wanna get sell it.
Sell or trade, I need a hauler for my wife's craft show stuff.

Thanks, I amaze myself sometimes, lol. The best ideas are born from laziness.mdmead wrote:Dude, the casters on the subframe is awesome!

These casters are on the line as far as strength for anything but smooth surfaces, but are holding up so far. The AWD is so heavy with the T-case on; a RWD isn't real hard to move, and almost balanced with a V8.
The RWD doesn't have the same holes in the crossmember, but I could prolly cob something.

I know you said you wanted to cut back on vans, but maybe this one would be a good deal for you.
