transmission whine

Post by Cobraearl »

my 1999 2wd astro has a new whine. SOUNDS LIKE a powersteering pump thats low on oil.. but it only makes the whine when in gear. and it gets some what louder when I drive off.

only been doing it a few days. checked it today to find that its not the power steering.

it has 156000 miles. Ive had it since 90000 miles. Ive never had the transmission fluid changed or trans filter changed.

Took it to the shop that does my oil etc today to have the oil changed and transmission fluid and filter changed.

Recon thats gonna help?

We've had that problem in our 95 at one point IIRC after changing the filter and fluid the problem went away, it did sound sortta cool though

I have a whine, but I don't think it is trans related as it happens even when trans is out of gear and I always here it speeds up when the engine speeds up, slows down when the engine slows down. I figured it was the belt but maybe it is something else.

Mine only whines when in gear.

sounds just about like my old ragged dakota when the power steering fluid is low...
