Distributor Wiring Mystery...

Post by capulet_x »

I don't know if anyone can assist me with some additional questions I have come across. I've tried to attach two pictures but apparently it is not allowed and so I will provide a link:

One shows a "connector to nowhere". I have no idea what it should be attached to and was wondering if someone had an idea. The other picture is a scan of the distributor schematic. On my van the previous owner crossed the two highlighted connectors and everything worked fine when I switched the two to match the diagram the injectors would not fire. Maybe this isn't a real problem but I like to understand why things are not functioning as expected or in this case as designed. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

The 'connector to nowhere' is the fuel pump prime terminal.
If you power that wire up, the fuel pump will run.

As to the wiring issue, a possiblility is that there was some wiring repaired improperly elsewhere so instead of repairing properly they just swapped the terminals.
