Body to subframe bushings

Body to subframe bushings

I have tried to find aftermarket polyurethane replacements,but have had no luck . I contacted Energy Suspension, they don't have anything available. Also I called the local Chevy dealer to try a crossrefrence,but no luck either. Anyone have any ideas? #-o

I am not sure I would go that route.SafariRob used them on this front end and the noise drove him crazy.PM him and he can explain better.

That's what I've heard about poly bushings also. If you can get to them to grease them periodically it's not an issue. But many of the bushings can't be lubed without disassembly. After the grease washes out - squeeky squeeky. My suggestion is to stop doing this ](*,) and get OEM bushings.
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.

I have in the Energy Suspension control arm bushings. Belltech lowering spindles and flip kit,sway bars front and rear,and air bags all around.I have had them in since September,with no sqeeking problems,and it's my daily driver. I am looking for poly bushings for the subframe to body bushings. I want to eliminate as much flex of the subframe as possible. Our roads are curvy , so handling is my ultimate goal. :guitar:

Why not go solid or weld. It would make for a rougher ride but would take care of the body flex.

I will go with solid bushings if I can't find poly.It corners really good now,just wanted to finish the last possible point of flex and twist.If I go with solid bushings,then I am going to build a complete rollcage to tie in the whole thing.Heck,I may even give it a shot on an autocross track,or better yet take it to Year One's annual event on the road course.

The Pontiac Fiero's sub frame from 84-87 had bushings like the ones of the Astro. When I put a 3300 in mine there are solid aluminum ones that I used. The 88 fiero came factory with solid frame mounts.

My subframe cushions are petty old - 21 years. Probably need changing due to age, but how do you know when they are really shot?
And, can they be replaced without removing the entire subframe?

I thought the same thing. But once I started lifting and pulled them out,
mine were in excellent condition. Still read the markings, still had some
casting flash on them. They were a little oiley, but they weren't torn
or squished.

The washers were a bit rusty. I cleaned them up with a wire
brush in a dremel tool.

89 Astro with 292,000 miles.

Steve,

I would guess a lot depends on the area you live in.Like in the Northeast or in Canada with the snow and salt would take it's toll on them over the yrs.

I think I read while doing a two inch lift,you take off one side at a time and lift that side.I would guess that would be the way you replace the stock body mounts the same way. :-k

Well, no road salt to worry about down here, and if Lumpy's cushions have survived the Arizona heat, it's a fair bet mine are still ok. the metal parts may be another story. Lot's of rain here and high humidity.
