I'm still thinking of doing a suicide opening rear door. If I get all my big redneck buddies in there and the 24' trailer loaded with the buggys the the sliding door hits the tire still.

:-s I do don't I.. With the big tires on it they don't look that bad do they? I mean you gotta have a place to put the huge tires under full compression of the springs. The thing is I don't know what will hit first, the axle to the oil pan, spring to bump stops, tires to the wheel wells. I guess only time will tell. :)

Whoo, man its been too long with no updates... I finnaly got back to my van after everything and anything came up all at once.
So here we go, the van is now at my house after my buddy changed jobs. This means no more big nice shop to work out of. But now at least I don't have to drive 35 mins to get to it.

It has a drive shaft in the rear now, fuel tank relocated and installed, fuel lines run, power steering plumbed in with the vans hydro boost brakes, brake lines made and installed, turbo was re-clocked for a top mount intercooler, rear shackle filp kit is here and next on my list of things to install along with the rear disk brake conversion.

Gawd almighty!

Awesome build, bud. Though for the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone would want to mod an Astro..... :smurf:

Just toying with the pipes at first, BUT now I really like them. Here is the first real mock up. They are 5" SS semi truck stacks.

Looks pretty cool! The side pipes hide the frame pretty well. How about a straight on side shot with the pipes on? What are you gonna do for leg protection/stepping in? Or do you just carry a step ladder? :muhaha:

The pipes are just under the body line so leg skin should be safe. I got a picture of the side steps that I'm working on. they will be hooked onto the frame by a pair of hinges at each end the powered up a down with linear actuators when the doors are opened. they should tuck right up below the pipe in there full up position and cut the step up into the van by half all the way down.
