I am a Millwright by trade and a bit of a metal artist by play. My work has me doing a lot of machinery installations. It is amazing how little care big business has, as to what happens to old machinery when they are looking at a brand new one getting installed. Often I can buy the old one for a song, If not take it away for free so they don't have to look at it anymore. But don't get to excited. All of my machinery has been completely stripped and rebuilt. None of it was a pleasure to look at when I got it. For example

Thanks, I bought all that machinery just as a hobby. But it has become a pretty good way to make extra money. And makes it really easy to make friends

My grandfather was pretty handy with a metal lathe and owned his own machine shop in the 50s/60s. When he passed away, my grandmother just about gave away all the machinery in his shop, much to my step-dad's dismay as he had been told it was his if he wanted it. I sure wish it had stayed in the family!

Thats a colchester dominion 15x48. Usually referred to as a "round Head" . Its gotta be from the 50's. It has since been updated a bit with a Digital read out, and turns very true. I find The old stuff is built way better than anything new. It is simple and straight forward to work on and will be around for people to fight over when I'm no longer around. The shear in the first couple pictures can cut up to 8ft of 5/16 and weighs 12 thousand pounds! When I first saw it, It was mostly covered in an old tarp. I thought it looked like an antique motor with exposed valve springs.

Jealous! I wish I had machinery like that in my shop. If I did I would also need a microwave oven and a blanket!

Hey Willis, you got a lot of sheet metal stacked in there? Whatcha Making?
I use to run turret and punch press, shear and material handling at a wood stove factory.
Your garage looks a bit like the factory I worked at. Lol!!
Can I book my summer Vacation at your garage? I gots me some projects. lol

Most of the stuff done in my shop is just boring fabrication. I do end up drinking a lot of free beer while making friends any sort of bracket needed for whatever strange project they have at the time. I also make any and all of the furniture i need for the house as well as neat architectural pieces. I recently made a "modern gothic" gun room door for a fellow wanting something "out of the box" As well as some railings for my house and a fire-pit for the backyard . Pics or it didn't happen

Nuts, absolutely nuts. You're an artist is what you are. The door is absolutely incredible, as is the railing....

My garage is nothing compared to your personal rendition of the industrial revolution, though I've completed a few fun projects in there. I recently finished up an elevator which goes into the attic. It was getting old quick, lugging spare tires'n stuff up'n down into the attic by hand thru a fold-up attic staircase.


I shot this video and sent it off to Midget down in Florida.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. Peter that elevator is excellent! What is it that you do? Not everyone has the stuff lying around to fab up that kind of system.
