Low Compression

Post by Quill »

In my search for an Astro, I have noticed several that have bad compression in one cylinder. Is there a common reason that proper maintenance would eliminate? I have seen some with completely blown engines.

Which cylinder?

Was the blown engine still running?

Are you running a compression on each van you consider for purchase?

Thanks, Jim

No they list them on CL as having the problem. One was #2 cyl. that I defiantly recall, maybe two vans. I don't remember the others or what caused the blown engines. I am not doing compression checks. I probably should and yes I know how. It's just not practical to buy one that doesn't run well, but since there are several with that problem I begin to wonder. There was a 2000, a 01, and an 02 with compression problems. The older ones with blown engines, I am not surprised. Second and third owners don't always maintain vehicles.

I seem to recall some who have pulled plugs identifying one as more fouled than the others.

And I also seem to recall, that the oil galley system (maybe), affects the plug that fouls most often.

You may be on to something.

So, is the oil gallery getting plugged or what would be the logical cause?
