Re: Went to a mechanic... VERY dissappointed
Not as bad as it sounds really. The fan grabbed the wire to the battery, dragged the wire under and was bouncing the clamp around, it scared me, I dropped the timing light into the fan, I shrieked and ran away, came back after the fan had its way with my timing light. No real harm, could have been worse. I just felt silly.

Hah! (I laughed out loud for real this time). You didn't run to turn off the ignition?
And how did you jolt yourself?

This LED theory sounds like it could be pretty cool. What went through my head is that you could actually affix an led by the timing mark, attach the wires, all with the engine off. Start up the engine and just look down, hands free. That would be awesome. We might have something here!

Thats what I thought! Then you wouldn't have the fan nipping at the light while you're trying to get in a better position.

Here's something that might work better.

Brighter than an LED, less than a buck, and no additional circuitry required.

" You didn't run to turn off the ignition?"
Not right away, but oddly the light still worked, well for a while anyway.
"And how did you jolt yourself?"
Which time?
I reached to tighten the timing light wire boot to the plug(the old kind that connects between the plug boot and plug)and missed and touched the exposed connection to the sparkplug and got the 25,000 volt surprise, and my favorite was when I was setting points and left the ignition in the "on" position when I slid the feeler gauge between the points. "Yowww.Bang. What the..?" I think there was another time, but for some reason I can't remember it very well. oh well.
