Are you planning on a "wet" blower setup (carb on top) If so then consider taking a 96+ Vortec base and having a slab of aluminum milled/cut for the blower.

i was thinking of cutting up a V8 manifold and welding it together, but I like your idea, I think I am going to have to take the radio CD player out so I can get my hand in to work the carb throttle.

Just a thought, take the Vortec 4.3L intake, plug the injector holes and use that with a home brew plate on top. Simple, easy and probably as effective.
