We got a foot or so on Mt Hood a couple of weeks ago but then the rain washed it all away. Forecast to get 9-13" Monday night and 5" on Tuesday with snow flurries forecast for the rest of the week. Haven't seen anything in Hood River yet but we're all anxious for ski season to start.

YES!
Whistler got snow and ice on the road which was in the forecast for, oh about a week. But that's didn't stop people from hopping in their vehicles and driving into each other and ditches. Traffic was completely halted on the 99. It took me 9 hrs to get home. ](*,)

Ground was white here in Selah, WA, yesterday. Melted away now. Spent most of the weekend at our cabin at Tollgate, OR, and it snowed off and on the entire time. Less than 3" when I left on Sunday, but the forecast was for several more yesterday. I love snow... and snowmobiling... but I'm not real excited about this upcoming winter. That will probably change when the snow actually comes though!

Hey Timeless, is the AWD broke on your van or what? I've never had to put the chains on mine except when the transfer case went out (with 2' of snow in the parking lot). :poke:

Glad you got to get out in it. I'm just jealous.

Joe, actually yes, it is currently broken. But even if it was working, the chains still saved my ass. Let me explain...

We had just crested a peak on a forestry/mining road which serpentined up a hill, and we were coming down the other side. The road was glazed with ice and the van started to slide (full brakes) towards the ravine at the edge of the road, but luckily a small bank stopped the van, but not my heart which was trying to leap out of my chest. The chains allowed me to reverse back up the hill. We drove back to a large clearing at the top of the hill and spent the night. That's where the photo was taken the next morning.

Otherwise, yes the AWD is awesome in the snow. I went to this spot a few years back and there was a foot or two, and the 'Stro got really far. The only thing that holds me back is the lack of low range, and some clearance because the snow piles up in front until it becomes a barrier.

Glad it all turned out okay for you (and you got such a killer photo). I love trying to climb stuff and the feeling of satisfaction when you make it thru or up something you wasn't sure you could do but that feeling when going downhill and not being able to stop is sickening. Especially when there is something like a ravine ahead. It IS fun driving in the snow though. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable winter. :partyman:

We are finally getting our first true snow of the season. So far we have about 3" of the heavy white stuff on the ground. I did find out my van sucks on the slippery stuff! There was no treatment on the road surface yet so it was very slick and the 4.10 gears just wanted to break the rear end free up every hill! :muhaha: The problem is the AWD transfer case takes too long to engage so you have the rear breaking free and starting to slide and then the front engages and pulls straight. Then it does it all over again. ](*,) I am hoping it'll get better as they salt the roads or I will need a new t-case.

I don't think there should be that much lag in the stock AWD system, Lifted. A fraction of a second. Maybe things aren't working 100%?
