When you go camping.
When you go camping, what you got??.Tent, conversion van,T.T.,custom build?.Pictures-got any of your rig?.Where you been with it??.Any tips and tricks you found for camping??.One of the neatest RV's I found was a Tiger GT based on a Astro. The ones I have looked at are pricely, but I am sure there is one out there priced right that I could re-store.

Re: When you go camping.
If it's just my wife and I traveling cross county we'll sleep in the back of the van en route. I'll pull both benches and throw a futon mattress on the floor, fits perfectly. Our favorite trip like this so far has been to Big Mountain near Kalispell, MT. Such a beautiful part of the USA.

Re: When you go camping.
I always sleep in the van when car camping. Everyone else has to fool around with tents.
And I like to go backpacking and overnight [or two] canoe trips. Love it! Car camping is cool 'cause you can bring everything. Canoe camping and backpacking are awesome, you definitely can get away from everything. No matter how I go, I gots to have my tunes and some tasty grub and something good to sip on.

Re: When you go camping.
Here's a few pics of our '99 Trailmanor 2619, kind of a cross between a popup and hi-low. Great part is it's mostly aluminum and our's only wieghs 2500# empty. It's also great over a TT as there is little wind resistance. We've mostly been to Hueston Woods here in Ohio, but these pics are from Gatlinburg, last one is from Myrtle Beach '06. Lynne, last pic is the campsite I was telling you about, pretty large once your there, Pirateland. We pulled it pretty easily with our 97 4.3 Blazer, now the Tahoe get's the duties, much , much easier!!! We try to go local at least 2-3 times per year and one a few hrs away, probably do our regular Gatlinburg this summer.

Re: When you go camping.
We started with a tent... used that for many years. We the bought a 2006 Jayco Select 12HW pop-up. Used that for 1 year and then the dealer made us a good deal on a new 2007 Jayco Jay Feather 232 hybrid camper. Then I had to buy a new tow rig...LOL.

Re: When you go camping.
We have a 10' Jayco pop-up which we purchased new in 2001. It pulls really nicely behind the van. I don't have any pics at the moment.
I am considering building a tear-drop style tailer that we could use behind the car (it will only weigh about 600 pounds) for those times we need something to sleep in, but it is only an overnight so popping up and taking down the current trailer would be too much of a hassle. It also gives me something to build which should be fun.

Here's a cool link showing a tear-drop and the building process one couple took.

Re: When you go camping.
We pack everything into the Safari and tent it out in the woods. Ten is a McKinely (sp?) 4 men tent with good weather guard (keeps us dry in good'le BC rain down pour) or a 10 men Famous World Tent. Some times depending on which friends come with me we settle for the lean-to make shift tent (use trap, rope/tree and do an open side tent) so we can have open pit fires on both ends. The ladies in the McKinely tent sometimes end up joining us cause it is warm LOL.

When it's me and my youngest son, we sleep in the van. When my wife and daughter tags along, it's a tent.

This spring I intend to work on a better curtain system for the Tramper. I have reactivated the OEM domelights. I had condemned them initially, due to the (relatively) high current the bulbs drew. I recently passed wiring to the dome/map lights & installed LED's in their place and they pull nuthin' as far as precious power goes.
