You gotta be kidding me... :yikes:
unfortunately no- if you stop using it your dash will start cracking (not immediately, but it will happen- happened on my '97- prev owner armor all ed everything then a few months after I got the van, the dash pad started cracking noticably) I dont think it affects hard plastic (ABS) but your softer plastics and vinyls (dash top, seats, etc) will start to crack.

I don't think my leaks are that bad... Unfortunately my strata does, and they gave me a warning.

The worst is the front axle seals. I haven't decided whether I want to take on that myself, or have it done for me. Need to look into what is involved.

Then there's the oil cooler lines.
The dealer quoted me $265 for those (#15764375 ). I don't think so!
Ebay has the Dorman (625-105) ones for $65-$85.
Amazon doesn't ship to Canada? WTF! Didn't they just build a warehouse here?

I could re-clamp them - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=660
or do a DIY replacement a la cargoCrawler - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4614
I don't think I want to delete them - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=347

Delete, Run the bigger oil filter, and switch to synthetic oil.

My Two Cents, Jim

be warned my dormans cooler lines only lasted four years or so now i have another set in my house to replace them again they do have a life time warranty though so they are only costing me time, this time. also if you do change them make sure you change the retaining clips my mechanic used the old ones and the line blew out on my not long ago i'm not sure if they come with new ones or not

picked up sticker for my 97

Jim, synth oil will end up costing me a fortune in the long run, and I'm not exactly driving a high performance super car. As you can see from the rust, the powertrain is going to outlast the body anyway. Plus, I get into high-heat situations often enough that I don't want to take away any of the cooling capacity.

Cobra, yeah I read about clips, seals and o-rings on these things, but I'm not too clear on where they go or what they look like. I should take a look at a parts diagram.

You know you can make that number even bigger by installing smaller tires, eh? Lol

Over the course of 25,000 miles I bet that the Synth would save you money.

You don't have to drive a Super Car to take Super Care of it.

I shudder to think of an Oil Cooler Line failure out on the trail or on the road.

But to each their own, Jim

Isn't that what they do on that other van forum?

I like the truth, no matter how bad it hurts.

You don't have smaller tires, do you ???

I think it's a super waste of money unless you live in cold climates. The oil cooler will be fine.

Went totally Synthetic today.

Trans Filter and Fluid changed at my own hand (WIX Filter and Amsoil ATF).

What a mess. They don't make a drain pan big enough for the mess I made.

Good thing the Army taught me how to operate a mop.

How much do you pay for an oil change?

Around $12. Could be less if I bought oil in bulk but I have nowhere to store it.

You are right...

The 63.90 I just spent for my 25,000 mile Oil Change is ASTROnomical (includes Filter).

My Two Cents, Jim

PS What is your oil change interval?

I kinda rub the oil between my fingertips when it gets the colour of coffee, and then I change it when I get around to it. $64 would cover the cost of about 2 yrs of oil changes. :D
