Update.

I fitted the new fuel pump today. Was pretty easy. The needle was showing 1/2 a tank, we got 40-45ltrs syphoned out into my brothers VW Corrado.

Took us 4hours (we rummaged around on the floor with jack stands no ramp!) with a 30min break for lunch. She runs smoother, so i guess the pump was on its way out!

We appreciate reading your update......

Did you change the fuel filter? if not change it now because this is the main reason that fuel pumps die prematurely, then change it every 20k miles from now on.

Research Jags and `90s Discovery and Range Rover fuel filters, as they are the same as 4.3 5.7 7.4 Chevy fuel filters and maybe easier to get hold of overthere.

Another update.

I think the Fuel pump is already dead. The vans moved probably 20 miles since i changed the pump. Since i am working on it as a project its been taken off the road, its not road tax'd

I'm guessing its down to the pump being cheap knock off i bought from ebay... Ok ok.. so its one of those i told you so' ](*,)

Maybe also due to the fuel filter not being changed. So i'll buy a proper one i think this time which leads me to;

Does this item look like a knock off?

I bought from another Florida store (Miami) on ebay, Global Automotive c/o Kevin Simmons and had the same exact problem.
Do a search on this forum and read all about it. They list them as stock OEM, etc, etc, but in reality they are made in Mexico knock-offs. A quick Google search will show others have also been ripped off. I suspect, Kevin Simmons and his partners may now be operating under a new business name. ](*,)

EvilBay strikes again with supplying cheap crap!

Genuine Delphi or AC Delco are both GM good quality brands.

What year van? If it's one that they reccomend you replace the sending unit on, Delphi is GM OEM parts as well as AC Delco so you'll very likely be getting the same pump with a different name on it. Both should be good quality regardless.

Grumpy is still going strong using the $30 fuel pump rebuild kit from Global Auto. I did replace the fuel filter when I put the pump in though.
