My 96 needs near rear drums

Yes. The mid 90's Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 calipers and disc pads will bolt on. No mods required. I did the disc pads only. They drop right in the stock calipers. There's a marked difference in stopping. I'll change to the larger calipers when it becomes time to change out my stock calipers.

Does that work on the RWD or only the AWD?

Someone should chime in about the 11" brake backing plates and the entry holes of the e-brake to limit the confusion about that.

My Safari is a '96 RWD. I can't speak for the AWD. The parking brake cable enters from the rear. Not from the front like we are used to seeing. On the Safari there was enough cable to reach the rear so it was no problem.

I was thinking I read about a member doing the 11" upgrade and bought new backing platess from a dealer.The one thing I remember from that thread came with holes that where one on the front and the other side on the rear.I think it was finnaly decided that wasn't a problem before he went and drilled a hole in one of the backing plate to match them up.

There was some confusion about that. It was settled. The backing plate can be drilled if you want. It's not necassary. The parking brake cable will reach if you put it in from the rear.
