Got my grid power back on a few minutes ago. Three days on gen. power. Had to replace 136ft. of wire that got damaged. Man that shit exspensive, $12.49 a foot .

holy crap..... running that under ground would probably be a good idea... no worries of ice, wind or falling trees

I have thought about going underground but I would have to blast or rock hammer a trench in for about 1400ft though blue granite. That stuffs as hard as steel.
I would still be at the mercey of the power lines on the road. The tree that fell, fell on the main powerline out on the road and took out my power line on my property.
Not much I could do about that.
Since the major part of the damage was on my property it is up to me whether I want to have it fixed or not.
I'll take out some of the questionable trees around the lines and hope for the best.

Will your home owners insurance cover that bill for you? I know here in the states it will...that is after you threaten to get a different insurance carrier and move your money elsewhere!

I've always concidered these things to be an "Act of Gad", which I am not covered for.
My insurance premiums are, well; premium.
Living way out in the sticks with a voluteer fire department and no fire hydrants makes for an exspensive insurance policy not to mention the cops are at least a half an hour away at best and the thieves know this.
I do have motion sensors and cctv for piece of mind, and, I have a 4000 gal. systern on site with pumps at the ready as per my policy requires, but it's still very exspensive at over $1800 a year.
I'll give them a call today and see what they have to say, but I think I already know the answer.
