I feel your pain.

I bought a 93 $2500 (2,929.25 Canadian).
Cleaning it up; tuning it up +$$$; lots of front end work +$$$; 4 new tires +$$$$; and etc. to get it road ready. Noticed no t'stat was installed. Put one in as it supposed to have one. Then I started getting steam out the tail pipe. Only put 20 miles (32.186.88 Canadian) on it since I bought it in 2005. Now see my sig.

well, $1600 later and its back together. New crankshaft, oil pump, freeze plug (discovered leaking when replacing alt bracket) and timing chain cover. Mech said the inside of the motor looked good, no gunk or goop build ups.

and its running good again with lots of oil pressure now.

annnd it went back in the shop cause the oil pressure just did not seem right and lo and behold...it ate the crankshaft and bearings.

The shop did the work again and my dad picked it up today, got it home and said its knocking worse than before...called the shop and they said "drive it until it blows up and then we'll put a new motor in it".

I'm assuming that he is goign to warranty the two faulty crankshaft installs by replacing the motor....

So what happened since all of this? Is it still knocking? What was/is the problem?

ahhh...i never did conclude this one....

well, it went right back to the shop again and they took their time and got it right. Another new crankshaft and bearings.

The problem the second time turned out to be that the crankshaft supplier delievered and incorrect unit. Not ground properly or something.

Anyway, we have had the van back and she has been driving it without any issues (at least related to the crankshaft, anyway)

When I get crank shafts turned I still have to check the bearing tolerence during the install. Sounds like they just threw it together. I also wonder a few more things about the rebuild they did for you. I would have installed new rings while the engine was apart. I hope that they did it correctly this time or it won't last very long.
