My van has been well, sitting. Need to rebuild a gear box to toss in. Maybe I'll work getting the tools rebuilt Sunday. Other than that been working on getting the electronics designed and coded for the 4L80E. Still a lot of finalizing on the hardware but have mostly been working on the firm ware.

I received my 3" knockout punch in the mail and bought a square tubing bender so I can get to work on my roof rack. I aslo pondered a dual composite headlight mod. 4 HID bulbs per side.....I'll probably have to run a snorkel for the air intake. :-k

Yeah our vans are freaks with 25 gallons. I seem to recall the only differences between 25 and 27 gallon tanks is the way the filler necks store fuel.

Fuel Tanks
1985-1989 - 17 gallons (4 cylinder engines)
1985-1996 - 27 gallons
1997-1999 - 25 gallons
2000-2005 - 27 gallons

Yeah, there's really only two sizes. When I bought my Green '98 the gauge was way below empty and I put 27.2 gallons in it and it was still running when I pulled in but I nursed every drop I could into the darn thing just to see what it would take. I don't recomend that as I smelt gas for a long time on the ride home. It seems fuel tank size is like HP ratings, nothing to do with reality, just what "they" desided the number should be at the time.

My '96 is supposed to have a 27 gal tank. I coasted into a gas station with what I guessed was a completely empty tank. When I filled it it only took 24 gals. Who knows?

OK, hold-up. My tank tops out at 18-19 gallons. I have no clue what the heck you guys are talkin' about. :-k

Is it possible my fuel gauge is THAT far off? I have never run out of gas so I can't really say for sure I have ever emptied the tank. The fuel alarm and light have come on a few times...but I have never put more than 19 gallons in the tank. If there's another 6 gallons in there I'm shocked.

I replaced the fuel pump unit about two years ago but my van has been like this since I got it, like 4 years ago. I think the sender is part of the pump?

This does look like a big ass tank but it sure doesn't look like 5 5gal. Sparkletts water bottles...looks more like 3. ??????

Internet specs do say the '97 has a 25 gal. tank. Maybe I have 6gal. of Saudi Arabian sand in the bottom of the tank.

Gosh...it does look a little bigger than my 20gal fish tank......I 'spose I should look into this further.

97CC........your tank is considerably smaller than mine. Your fill ups are probably correct.

I agree. That is an early tank. No idea why you ended up with it.

That "OK" on the tank worries me. I wonder if it's from a junk yard or something. Bizarre. I'm gonna have to peek up somebody's undercarriage.

Well there you have it.....I may have discovered an anomaly with my van today. On topic!

=D>

Hmmmmmm, Must be a Canadian thing then maybe? Interesting.

My 1987, 1995 and 1990 vans have all had the 'Large' tank.
I have never squeezed more than 88 litres into any of those at dead empty.
My 1987 5 speed van has the 'small' tank, and I've only ever got about 65 litres into it.
I'm pretty sure my 'Haynes' manual (which I cant find at the moment, of course) also has those specs listed.
BTW, I've stripped 2.5 vans now, and I've seen OK skrawled on quite a few parts...
AND, My smaller tank is a lot smaller than the pic of 97CC's tank there...
His looks more like my 88L tanks do.
Anyways I hit some black ice today, and did a bit of a fish tail on the highway, Yikes!

I asked my friend to loan me $20 to get the parts I need for the van, and he said he'd let me borrow it. I need ANOTHER intake manifold gasket, the 12 bolts, and a crow's foot. Hopefully I won't screw up again.

I've re-used the 12 bolts with no ill effects.... (used new lockwashers though)
