Did you overheat it from lack of coolant or did you sieze it from lack of oil? Very big difference between the two. Sounds like you overheated it and did not run it out of oil. 9 times out of 10 the bearings would have been ruined if it ran out of oil enough to sieze the pistons. I would keep looking for a donor engine unless you are going to rebuild that one.

A sound clip with video of how much oil it is burning would tell us a lot on how long to expect it to last.

Good to hear you got her going again. =D> Just a thought, now might be a good time to start putting a bank away for another engine for the van. :-k :-k That way you would be prepaired if you have anymore problems.

yeah, your crank bearings are probably the pretty well shot and your cam may be a little flatter but you con't do much more damage now !!! Run a thicker oil ( it won't burn off as quick ) and keep an eye out for another motor.

These 4.3's are pretty tough and will take a bunch of abuse.

You can also run some of that lucas additve to thicken the oil as well. I did that with mine when it ran low on oil and was leaking out the rear main. Helped out with leak.

Glad to hear your back on the road again.

Tell me, does your father in-law also sacrifice live virgin chickens as part of his "Heal-the-oil-starved/overheated-engine" ritual? I hope so. :muhaha: :muhaha:

One piece of advice. Use this truck ONLY if intending to flip across the median of a 3-lane highway. OR, to go no further thah the grocery store and back/ :D :yawinkle:

Give him a break, just because he now has to fill the oil and check the gas. :muhaha:

hey peter just a little fyi about my father in law, he got his journeymans back in the late 70s so hes an old school mechanic, he has kept some really old tractors running on his farm.
and yes he does have chickens and they to butcher them.

the van ran like a champ today as we went in to town (45min drive one way ) and barely used any oil .

Maybe that's why the last one flipped. The engine seized instantly and all that rotational mass passed to the body of the van causing it to flip over. :D
