Maybe not so interesting reading but...........

The two sides of Swedish law.

Talking with the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok about passport for Timothy. And as he become Swedish automatically by birth, it should not be a problem........ But, I had to fill in some papers, send them to Sweden, wait 2 months for them to return, go back to the Embassy, do the application for the passport and wait a week. Go back to the Embassy and pick up the passport.

That was not so bad......2 and a half month, 1200Km back and forth to Bangkok......

I thought it has to be a easier way, in my opinion this is not automatic.
So, I asked, as the kid are 50/50 Swedish/Thai, If we choose a Thai passport and go to the Embassy and get a VISA to Sweden?
"Nopp, as he is Swedish, he can't have a VISA to Sweden".
So, he is not Swedish enough to get a passport and he can't get a VISA because he is Swedish ???? :-k

So I called the Swedish passport/border control and asked. He said: "Do you all come together"? And I said: "Yes".
"Nae...... it don't looks good if we send back the kid"....."so no problem".
We made a Thai passport (4 days with home delivery). Bought tickets and started our way back to Sweden.

And it didn't start so good. At Bangkok airport they took me a side, and asked: "Where do you have the adoption papers"?
After a couple of minutes explain that I was the biological father and showing them the birth certificate and my wife, they said: "Sorry sir".

In Doha/Qatar they asked in a rude way for the VISA for the kid. That ended with a phone call to the Swedish passport/border control, and he said: "Get me the guy on the phone". Then the guy started: "Yes,sir.....sorry,sir......sorry,sir" and gave me the papers back and said everything was in order.

At Arlanda airport the passport control girl asked her boss: "This kid have no VISA"? and he said: "Can you see a connection between the family members"?
"Yes, of course".
"Then, Welcome home"

Thanks to them we are home, but the 2 months little guy is still a Swedish illegal alien in Sweden (for a few more days). =D>
