Well, I think it is done. Put it in this morning and then went on a trip to some relatives about 60 miles away. Half way through the trip something didn't feel right but cleared up on the return trip. I'm guessing a valve or so was sticking. We'll see.

Replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets (between the pipe and manifold) and my van no longer sound like a steam locomotive.

While I was down there staring at the bottom of the van during frequent moments of exhaustion and frustration, I noticed I was MISSING one of the two rear engine/transmission mount bolts!!!!! :yikes: And the remaining bolt was backed out 1/4" !!!!

But here's the odd part:

The bolt that was in there did not look like an automotive bolt. There was a split ring washer on it, but it wasn't captive like auto washers usually are. The head was 15mm. And I did not see a grade stamped into the head.

So at this point I need another bolt and suddenly I remember I might have one. I had found a bolt out in the street in front of my house about 6 months ago right where I park. It was a good sized bolt, so at the time I had looked under the van to see if anything was obviously missing. I didn't see anything. I kept the bolt.

Well as it turns out this bolt I found is the exact same thread pitch and length, but the head size was only 13mm. This bolt was definitely an automtive bolt. It had a flanged head and the grade stamped in it and just had that automotive bolt look to it, if you know what I mean.

I used the bolt, and it worked perfectly. So perfect in fact that it almost seemed like it was the correct bolt and the one that had not fallen out was something someone had bought at a hardware store. WTF???

What are the odds? If that bolt did indeed fall out of my mount, what are the odds it did so right in front of my house?!!

Strange. But damn happy I found the problem before the other bolt fell out too!

repositioned the aux tranny cooler to free up air flow through the ac condensor. I really need an auxilary electric fan.
recharged the freon - blowing much cooler now.

The two bolts that attach the tranny mount to the trans itself do indeed have non captive split ring lock washers and 15MM heads on the bolts. Just worked on them so it is fresh in my memory.

HA! That's funny. I guess the odds of the bolt falling out in front of the house are not too good then! Thanks for the info lockdoc.

My alarm died,no suprise tho it's as old as the horse & buggy.
It was placed in a shit spot & had 10 miles of spaghetti wires going everywhere.
No kiddin',it took me 2 hours to properly remove it,I almost bailed on it &
decided to become a alcoholic
Put in a new unit & installed a OEM slider door pin & re-wire...Good to go.
Front seats were loose, tightened em up.

My van & I were reunited today & she is all fixed & painted up. \:D/

About a month ago driving home from work, a guy who I think was on drugs rearended me while I was stopped at a red light. Since I have no bumper, just a roll pan & hitch, the damage to my vehicle was a little more thanthe average. He did manage to wrinkle my floor pan/crossmember. This was enough to trigger a vehicle assessement for possible write-off. After looking over the condition of the van the decision was to repair.
