The plastic skid material is UHMW-PE...Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene...if there was ever a plastic that could be said is "as strong a steel"...it's this stuff.
With one MAJOR advantage...it is self lubricating. So even running along a rock tip...it naturally allows sliding. Metal wants to dig in.
I hope to be testing this stuff as skid material for our vans this yr.

UHMWPE & Delrin are commonly used in the marine industry
on aluminum boat hull bottoms for rapid beaching.

They use that stuff to line the inside gravel truck boxes too. It stops the soils from freezing to the inside of the box.
