Thanks, it is a lot of fun, built it really for me and my son to go wheelin' in, don't have the kind of trails over here that most of you guys do ....

I guess it's kind of a body over, felt like a lot more work than that though. I started off with a wrecked Smart Roadster, lengthened some Suzuki Jimny main rails and threw in some Jimny axles, a 1.6i tracker engine and auto 'box, hi-lo transfer box and a lot of work. The biggest problem was getting the chassis rails up into the shell enough to look right but still keep the engine under the hood line (Smart engine was in the rear!) Wanted to make it look as 'factory' as possible. Lot of fab work, new trans tunnel, bulkhead, transfer box tunnel, cooling system, cut down dash and heater box, wiring loom, suspension pickups, mounts, winch bumper etc. etc. I won't bore you with the rest. Painted it in my single garage with rattle cans. (good job the panels all come off!)
Anyway, hear's a couple more little pics, don't want to hog the thread.

It looks really good. What kind of differentials and transfer box did you use?

Diffs are lower ratio Jimny Automatic ones. Original transfer was a stock Jimny, current one is an SJ410/Samurai hybrid that gives me a pretty much standard high range and about an 80% reduction in low range.

Really like that, I've always been one for ticking off the purists !!! Bet that gets 'em going at the MG owners club.... suicide doors too! Anybody done that on an Astro?
Guess you've gotta know what tunes you want to listen to before you set off.

Sorry, talking at cross purposes there. The diffs are out of an Jimny with an auto trans, standard open diffs, just with a lower ratio. She gets around tighter without a locker.
I normally bug out before the car does !

Really cool form of independent suspension in the Pinzgauer.
