True-but the filter would pick them up-no?
What do you think of my quest to swap transfer cases to the venerable BW4472?

Maybe the filter can't trap the very fine stuff that you see in the bottom of the pan when you take it off.

Perhaps but I would think the 4l60 would be manly enough to deal with anything that small.

Then I hung up the funnel with a bungee cord.

I inserted the other end of the tube into the filter gasket.

Looks like a good method, thanks for reposting. I would think if there was a good seal at the hose/trans the pump would have enough lift to pull right out of the bucket. How much fluid did you go through to get a clean flush?

The first time I ever did an atf change was on my van. When I pulled down the pan and oil went down my arms and everywhere else I said "you've got to be @#$%^&* kidding me". Right then (after cleaning my arms), I hopped in the Toyota and drove 30 miles to the hardware store. Bought a metric nut and drain plug. Drilled a hole in the pan, welded on the nut. I put it next to the motor oil drain and made it the same size.

I drain the ATF ~every three oil changes, change the filter every other time.
