Maybe the filter can't trap the very fine stuff that you see in the bottom of the pan when you take it off.

Perhaps but I would think the 4l60 would be manly enough to deal with anything that small.

Then I hung up the funnel with a bungee cord.

Looks like a good method, thanks for reposting. I would think if there was a good seal at the hose/trans the pump would have enough lift to pull right out of the bucket. How much fluid did you go through to get a clean flush?

The first time I ever did an atf change was on my van. When I pulled down the pan and oil went down my arms and everywhere else I said "you've got to be @#$%^&* kidding me". Right then (after cleaning my arms), I hopped in the Toyota and drove 30 miles to the hardware store. Bought a metric nut and drain plug. Drilled a hole in the pan, welded on the nut. I put it next to the motor oil drain and made it the same size.

I drain the ATF ~every three oil changes, change the filter every other time.
