Lifted..The mounting brackets are welded about 1/2" above the bottom of the crossmember. The rack mounts on top of the brackets. I don't see anything touching it. The roads here in the south are better than those in the north. We don't have to deal with the weather extremes. It's the freezing and thawing cycles that destroy your roads.
Merlin..The rack has been in my Safari for a couple of years. No problems.

How close to the road is it? I would add some sort of skid plate around it unless your roads way down there are better than ours! I would be afraid of hitting some debris and smashing the rack.

Sorry, I missed your question asking how close to the ground the rack is. I'm still on the ramps now but will lower it back down after changing out the high pressure hose and get a measurement. That would be a question a 4x4 vanner would ask first for sure and for good reason but can tell ya we won't be out in the woods with you guys. Looks like alot of fun but mine would last about a pair of seconds out there. As far as the roads down here. Most are really good and usually flat. We do have our dirt roads out in the rural areas and most of those are kept up very well also so really no big deal. Now speed bumps may be another story. With the dropped spindles and if I still had the cut coils there very well could be a few issues.

That is exactly why I asked the question. I knew you were lowered and know for fact that rack wouldn't last more than 1 year running our roads! ](*,) Another reason we should move south!

Bah you know you love the northern roads. Everytime you take the SPB for a drive down the road it's just like being at paragon or the hammers!!

Wow, what an aggresive project! You're doing a great job it looks like just from a brief look at the pics in this thread. Tighter steering would sure be nice. ](*,)

Good luck!
