Post by LiftedAWDAstro »

Let's use this thread for pics of your Astro or Safari plowing snow! Right now I only know of Dunedog (Jim) and I having plows. Hopefully we can find more like us!

Damn, Dean, that beast looks as if it could pull a string of box cars after it's done with the plowing.

That is Dean's sister car.. she came here from up North for the weekend to help me paint the bedroom. She planned on leaving Monday the day the pictures we taken. It is now Monday night and she is still here. We had blue skies here all day but the storm had moved up North right along her travel route.
Gearing up for another great camping season :) Camper is re packed and ready to roll.

The plow 'stacks' snow reasonably well [1st pic], 2nd shot is just playing in the field,3rd is actually plowing out of my drive still another 100' to go,4th shot shows the importance of having put on top of the plow,a heavy 8" wide piece of HEAVY rubber belting.Without it snow would be rolling over the top of the plow.

The plow Jim and I use is a Snowbear personal snowplow. It is fairly cheap at under $1k and be found at retailers like Lowes, Home Depot and Chase-Pitkin. My van has around 10 - 12" of lift and Jim's has a 2-3" lift. You don't need any lift to run these plows. The lift just makes the plow work better.

10 - 12 " lift damn, do you use a ladder to get in it LOL

I want to do a 2" lift anyway, the plow would be my just in case, we rarely get enough snow. In fact the last time was in 06, we got 2 feet of snow, and "The Van" Just drove though it all!

So I can run the plow with my stock Safari AWD no other special mods needed? What about reccomemded mods?

No ladder...yet!

Recommended mod is to put a 2-3" or 4-5" lift on the van. If you don't, the plow frame hangs low and can get hung up a little.

This pic shows the mount with a 5" lift on the van. Normally the mount will be up to the bottom of the front bumper. That will tell you how much ground clearance there will be.
