Anyone know about towing an Astro 4 wheels down like what they do behind RVs?

You would need to disconnect the rear driveshaft. That or get a kit for the transmission (if they make one) that pumps the fluid while your towing it to prevent transmission damage.

Disconnecting could be a problem tho because if the slip yoke comes out so does all of the tranny fluid.

Because of the weight of the vans aswell You should be running a suplementary brake system. I hear those brake buddy systems work ok.

I've had my RWD towed 3 times, 2twice on a flatbed (my preferred method) and once with the front wheels up,tranny in neutral under 40mph for a total of less than 20 miles.

If its an AWD i think the flatbed is your only viable option.

I would guess the AWD would flat tow fine if you unhooked both front and rear shafts at the diffs. (Since the front diff is very similar to the S-10, it would be interesting to see what an owner's manual said. I would guess they just required the t-case put in nuetral [on the older non-electronic versions].)

Just unbolt driveshaft at rear, tape up ujoints, then wire driveshaft up under body securely. Or you could pull driveshaft and get a tranny plug (prety cheap) like I did when I pulled the red van from Cleveland to Chicago. If it's an AWD, I would somehow pull all driveshafts.

Sounds like a bit of a headache. My idea was to flat tow one van with the other van roughly 40 miles to Chicago, unhitch, load both vans with bikes, riders and gear, and I drive one and a friend drive the other to cycling events. Guess it might be easier just to have someone hop the train and drive the other one from the start.

Yeah, it'll definitely be easier to do that! Now, if you were heading cross country that would be different.
