Bone Yard Score

Post by Drooler »

Went to my local U-Pull last weekend looking for a replacement gasket for the rear doors. Saw this 89 astro there walked up to it and opened the slider - promptly forgot about the rear gasket - inside was a pair of 2nd row bucket seats in almost perfect condition. The drivers side loked like it was rarely used and the passenger side showed some light wear. No rips or tears anywhere - vinyl needed a cleaning & the cloth only a good vacuuming.
The color was right too - burgendy just like mine. $50 for both including bases - guess I should have swapped the power base from the drivers seat :muhaha: but I was glad to be so lucky with my find. They fit perfectly in the front position - the only thing I had to do was remove the left side seatbealt guide and mount it to the replacement seat. Really happy camper - nice to have decent fron seats again.

Hi Mr Harry!! That's really great! Good for you.

We've been to a couple of junkyards up here in Hernando County recently & NONE of them had Astros at the time. It was disappointing. There's so many Astro-Safaris on the road in my area, I expected to find some at the junkers.

Bunch on the road around here to DL but seems the salvage yards are crushing what they get.

Ya scrap metal prices are pretty high right now and witht he amount Mvans weigh I'm not surprised they are crushing them especially since aside from odds and ends they probably don't sell to much major stuff.
