8" wide rim?

Post by meetthespeakers »

Can you run a 18x8" rim, and what tire size max width could you go (245, 255)? I'm just curious if I can go wider than what I currently have which is 17x7 rim with 235/55r17's? Thanks guys. :tonqe:

I had 8" wide Cragar's with 0 offset and ran and 11.5" wide tire with no problems. Van was lifted to accommodate the 32" tall tires.

Like stated above, I was thinking about running an 8" rim with a 245 or 255 all around. I hope to lower at some point, so maybe I should just stick to the 18x7 rim with 235's?

235/50 18's 8" wide rim. No rubbing stock height. I believe 255 will fit in the rear but will rub bigtime up front.

I run 10" rims all 'round. The backspacing is what's gonna make or break you, along with the height of the tire. I have more backspacing on my fronts to tuck 'em in more.

The tire on the left is a 325/60R15, on the right is a 275/70R15 if I remember correctly.

The rears did touch the lip of the fenders before I added lift blocks back there. Not the road you're going down, I'm sure.

As well, some people make themselves sick over the fact they get rubbing against the frame at full lock. Hell, my stock 89' with OEM tires rubbed at full lock. It don't mean nuthin'!

Do you have any rubbing issues in the front? And what would be the stock diameter size for the 255 be (55 or 45 profile?)

Peter, Jesus! I always thought a 275 was a decent size tire, but that 325 makes it look a pathetic. The rims I am looking at have a 4 inch backspacing.

i initially had 255/55-18 all the way around.the front rubbed just slightly at full lock if you hit a bump.

i swapped the fronts out for 255/45-18.no rubbing issues now.

I have 18 X 10 in the rear and 18 X 8 upfront 245/40/18 all round no rubbing and a comfortable ride with -4 flip in the rear and -2 spindles up front.

I do agree that 225/45/18 or 225/50/18 would be the best size with enough sidewall to give you the best comfortable ride.

I hate to have to agree with the Smurf, but check your backspacing before you buy.

yeah it just depends on what backspace you have mine rubbed with 235/55/17 and 255/50/17 that i originally had now i run run 245/45/17 all the way around but want to go with a different wheel and run 235/45/17 all around so i don't rub my inner fenders anymore
