2001 has needle piviot rockers and no egr I think. All you have to change is the intake manifold for emissions. If you don't care about that, just get someone to take the EGR out of the puter.

A good point to that is you would get the Muliti port injection instead of central port injection elimintaes the poppet nozzles that have been known to plug up. 4.3l vin w poppets, 4.3l vin x multiport. You could transfer the injection system to the old intake manifold and be golden. As far as the rest of the engine I believe its the same. Or at least operates the same.

Not done away, just revamped into a new style. Somewhere around 2002 they switched to the multi port system VIN X, which uses 6 micro injectors in place of the poppet nozzles from the central port VIN W. GM does offer the injector assembly to replace the CPI system on 96-01. When I was replacing the engine in my van I discovered the micro injectors in the blown motor. Confused I started looking and found why. When the poppets plug up there is a special high potency cleaner to clean them. If that doesn't solve the customers complaint, you are to replace the faulty poppet. If the condition continues you are to give the customer the choice of upgrading the system to MFI. I had CPI on my 96 with 217k miles on it and never had a problem but I really put miles on it 60+ miles a day. Also according to GM fuel injector cleaners added to gas tanks have no affect on cleaning the poppets.

There is a beautiful documentation of this pinned up by v8famvan.
Alright enough of this rant...
